Feedback from participants
The 2011 Institute received many valuable comments:

Sometimes the lecture is too monotonous which made us sleepy.

Excellent

This program was very good to me.

Well planned.

It was helpful and wonderful. The program is helpful to increase a leadership as a librarian and all the hospitality you gave us was also great.

Needs more cases on how to collaborate with academicians.

Really related to my work and very helpful.

Very much.

The program is very useful to raise up my profession as a librarian. It enlarges and widens my vision.

Exercises

The last speech presented by Lorcan Dempsey. He gave me insights regarding making our library services more discoverable.

Those concepts of lecture are helpful for me to overcome our institute’s challenges.

Case study

Discussion on the case exercise on topic 3, because at that discussion we share ideas, some of the ideas hopefully can be applied to our library.

Group discussion and case study are good way for training but should not be too many.

Learning common / e-learning/ learning space. Since the library / librarians have to modify /change their role to meet and satisfy user needs nowadays.

Case study. The discussion between the workmates supplied me with many useful information and improved my ability to resolve problem.

Discussion of project management. Materials and others experiences will be shared to my colleagues and students.

Lecture on leadership in research libraries which gave one wider understanding the difference between management and leadership.

Lecture, groups discussion

The presentations are inspiring

The discussions and case study gave the opportunities to know what’s going on in the other countries (library)

More ideas, multicultural perspectives, different experiences

The topic about learning commons. We are planning to build up a learning commons this year. I’m preparing the proposal.

Discuss the case study. It gave me a chance to analysis the case with colleagues from around the world.

The project management case study is good for me.

Team building.

The exercises and case study.

Group discussion.

Exercises and case study presentation

Team discussion.

Group work activities are very good since we can learn from each others from different background.

Cooperation

Team work, then can share, adjust with diverse aspects even within a short time.

Case study – let us have the opportunity to consider question in an alternative way.

Group discussion: to learn about other libraries. It makes me know much more about my library.

Case study – it has made me think a lot of things.

All topics are very inspiring which make you think differently about running a library.

The one on reconfiguring organizational boundaries in a network environment helps me think of the role that the library is playing or will play.

Good planning. All activities work well for me.

The discussion of concepts and the sharing of experiences from different libraries, highlighting best practices and challenges being experienced by the participants.

Exercise – Learn new ideas from librarians of the other countries.

Teamwork exercises. Learnt a lot from other libraries e.g. how to promote the library via Facebook, Tweeter, how to collaborate with other units in the same organization.

Exercises in each session helps understand the content and give chance to think about it.

Case studies and group discussion.

Information literacy education.

All the talks are excellent – new ideas indeed.

Nothing in particular

No

Collections

Lecture

Exercise on case topic 9, because it just started in our library. So, no experience to share. However, we learned from the others about their experiences.

New way to conduct information literacy in library because the learning culture in the country is not mighty enough to adapt with new knowledge that they think not benefit for them.

Maybe some speech a little far from my work.

Nil – every activity works well for me.

None.

The case study. Some members don’t participate and some members are too dominant.

Long talk.

Nil.

Food, presentation of learning materials.

Nil.

Not at all.

None.

Time – too short, some activities should change the group, so can spend time together.

Lunch time are always limited and cannot talk too much with all participants.

All are good and relevant to my duties.

Nil.

There seems to be too little time to really discuss all the varied experiences from each institution.

Photo with cap.

Can’t think of any.

Some presentations are less interactive, a little bit boring.

Enlightened, enhanced, inspired

A good chance to meet with colleagues in other parts of the world.

Contact with new idea about library’s new function.

International communication and collaboration.

Enhance communication with other librarians from Asia.

It will broaden my mind as a professional about the technology and issues raised in the library.

The training gives me some new trend and ideas in the librarianship.

This is very challenging experience that I have to bring to our country and try to adapt and of course to implement what I’ve learnt here, also have to convince top management on librarian’s role, by using limited resources: infrastructure, budget.

This experience gives me a better chance communicated with the other librarians from Asia area.

Give one wider perspective and understanding about leadership in general; and I intent to hold training for senior librarians in my country.

It provides one with a new knowledge experience.

Get a chance to know the libraries of the other countries.

Widen one’s knowledge.

A memorable experience personally, an inspiring experience professionally

Really helpful with my work. All the discussion and group work is the best experience.

Enriched; expanding my horizon; developing alternative perspective; learning from others.

To rethink the future services of library, it will be good to identify the future direction of the development of my library.

I understand that solutions can be generated more easily by incorporating ideas from colleagues around.

Case study with other country librarians.

This workshop enriches learning experience.

It enlightens me and helps my work in the future.

Good networking.

It develops my intellectual thinking and communication skill. It helps me to think differently and share experience with other different country on library world.

I think I can apply several ideas like making my library more visible to users, and direct the trend of the library to meet the needs of the users.

Cooperation in the future.

Enjoyable that refreshing my job knowledge.

I think it would be good to have more activities (not in the program but such as entertainment) within the group.

This experience is very useful for me. Some ideas will impact me in my later work.

If you stand at a higher level to look things. It’ll be totally different.

To be a spokesman or representative of the library. I need to find ways to communicate with the senior management of the university and state your case to seek their support to your proposal.

I treasure the opportunities to meet and chat to librarians from other countries.

It has helped develop a more holistic perspective regarding the role of librarians and the literacy in the learning process of the academic community.

Internet and high tech have changed the whole world. It is very important reducing the cost of ownership and never invest more budget in the less used resources (include human resources).

Require new ideas for improvement in my library / work environment.

Broaden my horizon, learn to think outside the box to explore new ways of promoting and delivering services to users.

It helps me learn more on the trend of the library education and administration.

It is a good chance for professional networking.

The venue for the 1st and 2nd day is very good.

Except Day 4

The venue at the hotel is quite good but the room in iGroup is too small and too warm.

3rd day is not good.

It's the best of training session that I attended on the library profession and field.

Promoting leadership in the library field, updating this professional field.

It’s good!

SE-ED training centre’s air-conditioning should be improved.

The room in the hotel was excellent, but the one in the learning centre, especially the air-conditioning was disappointing.

Good.

Delicious.

Don't have choice and confident on halal food provided.

Too good that make one bored.

Also good.

Excellent, especially the one in Water Library.

A bit too spicy.

Most of the time is good.

Good to have Mike and Dianne to do the writing on board – efficient.

The training is very useful and well-arranged.

During the past 3 days, the participants were confined to seat with the team as we need to do the case study every day. My suggestion is: allow free seating except the first day, thus we have more chances to learn from each other and get more friends. Thanks for the organizers’ hard working!

Thank you very much!

Some topics are too rush, need more concrete case studies to share with the attendees. Facilitators, all are wonderful, expertise, friendly. Thanks for the Institute – Long live.

Excellent.

Time for discussion was too short. Unable to really exchange ideas of everyone. Perhaps no need to have so many discussion, but allow more time for each one.

Wish that the institute could also address the matter of budget cut or budget constrain that a lot of libraries are facing and how can the implementation of the matters learned in the institute this year be done amidst these difficulties / constrain.

Thank you very much for your arrangement!

Nil.

Conduct continuous training on leadership skills for librarians.

Very good institute.

Thank you. It was a very enriching experience.

Some of the facilitator delivered the speech monotonously. It will make the audience bored.

All the issues discussed are very good to expose to us. Congratulations to organizing team that work hard and smart to make this workshop success in terms of giving information to us. Thank so much.

The presentations of case study are great! Thanks a lot!

Invite more librarians from research institutes.

We really thank CNKI, Elsevier, iGroup, OCLC, ProQuest, Superstar, and TBMC for sponsoring this Institute, and also friends of iGroup for their tireless efforts in co-organising this Institute.
