2016 Institute

Feedback from participants

The 2016 Institute received many valuable comments:

I find the speakers are well experienced, I can learn a lot from them and maybe apply some of their experience in my library context. The food is superb.

A good opportunity to exchange experience with other Academic University Libraries.

A lot of what was discussed is out of my job scope but, nevertheless, learning about new way of doing thing (outside my areas) and new technology has been insightful.

It’s the first time I attended this kind of workshop. All the activities have well worked for me and my expectation.

I really appreciate the experience and expertise of Jeffrey, Steve and Dianne. Dianne’s session on student learning and research support was especially memorable. Jeffrey’s sharing on the Ferguson project was also very impressive.

(1) Target audiences need to be clearly defined. (2) Each time, similar level of participants (3) Able to speak/communicate to group members in English or make special arrangements for those with difficulties to talk, as to ensure full participation.

Add some fun activities, e.g. games, team-building exercise, more variety of exercises to make it more interesting and engaging.

It is a very good platform for librarians to know each other and discuss matters in library.

Please be hold only during weekdays (not including the weekend).

I am so glad to have had this opportunity to meet with so many others in the field – diverse and interesting, provoking ideas, thoughts. I am also happy to have been able to foster friendships and connect with fellow librarians.

Possible to use round table next time?

Excellent.

It’s been a great opportunity to learn about the trends and what is going on in other libraries and in other countries.

Challenges me to look beyond the traditional, accepted best practices to be open to changes, ideas and different ways to adopt in order to be relevant.

It is an eye-opener and exposure to me, especially impactful to me as I have been tasked to be a “change” leader, in an institutional library that has a long history and legacy of past practices and cumbersome systems and procedures…also proves that I am on the right track, to take up leadership, for the future.

I do appreciate for the chance that enabled me to see how others work, experience, think and advance.

I appreciate that the institute has offered a great opportunity for networking and professional development.

Widen my knowledge, keep me up to date and more confidence about my profession, and try to apply it in my professional/personal work.

Networking with librarians in the region is definitely a valuable component. I learn that we are very similar (i.e. library issues we face) and very different (i.e. the institutional context and work culture) at the same time.

It gave me a new knowledge of perspective on libraries, technologies and experiences shared by other academic libraries. It’s very interesting and informative.

Let me to see the trend of library from a new perspective.

I’ve learnt a lot of new things from the speakers and other international librarians. It’s been an exceptional experience mingling with fellow librarians all over Asia.

Motivating. Encouraging. Surprising. Relevant. Interesting.

Too many sessions, total 8, is too many.

This experience enriches and expands my vision of the international trend and idea of academic libraries.

Some PPT slides cannot be viewed clearly either from the back of room or from the booklet.

It was a very well organized, informative, enjoyable and welcoming event! I’m happy to know many librarians who have diverse background and experience, and learned a lot! I will highly recommend it to my co-workers and I hope I can see all again. This seminar was a great mixture of seriousness and fun

(1) Thank you for providing examples and models for each topic, so that we have a reference on how we create or develop our own, especially if we haven’t got any idea before. (2) Perhaps we can put library tour in the middle of the program? Just a thought.

Hopefully next time, we can pay the registration fee in USD because generally our institutions in the Philippines have USD account, we paid almost 400HKD in processing our payment thru bank transfer.

Thank you for meeting these days hard group, also thanks the University of Hong Kong Library for the learning opportunity. Thank you very much!

(1) I wish to attend the institute in the near future, please keep me informed. (2) Good and powerful speaker.

(1) I wish to have more opportunity to really mingle with people from other institutions, especially from other countries. It’s because we are only limited to my group. (2) Some of the group members can’t understand English, and I think this is a huge barrier for the discussions. In fact, I am quite positive that these group members could comprehend the presentations by the speakers.

The trainings given were clear and useful for me. I was inspired to gain a lot of knowledge and a few projects from it. The interactive exercises enable us to share with other librarians from other libraries. Well done! Keep up the good job! Interaction with librarian enlightened me a lot. During the engagements with librarians in the conversation, I definitely brought back a lot of “new” ideas.

Dianne and Jeffrey are good facilitators.

Thank you Organizing Committee! Appreciate everything you did!

Maybe we can have 1.5 hours break for lunch, as some participants are Muslims, they need to pray

Good work.

Kudos to the organizers! And speakers!
