Feedback from participants
The 2014 Institute received many valuable comments:

Very useful. A rare opportunity to meet with East, West and South.

Thank you for U of HK to give an opportunity participation.

Well conducted and on time.

It would be better if the hotel locates closer to the heart of the city.

Few lectures would have been more focused.

More visit will help to extend our satisfaction.

It is useful in implementing new services and planning of new services in libraries also in teaching.

Information is well-explained and current to the problems modern libraries are facing.

Because my English is not good, so I hope someone can translate some important presentation.

Many presentations are highly relevant for the arrangement and operations, such as the assessment techniques.

Broaden my horizon, learning from benchmark.

It is useful, we learnt from each other and share the knowledge as well as the experience we have in our own library.

Group discussion of different scenarios and we can exercise brainstorming for different situations.

Building campus partnership. It fits well with the future trend of the library.

Group work and discussion were very good. It helped in exchanging ideas.

Case study in group. I learned much from other participants.

Discussion and presentation are both helpful tool to realize the knowledge.

Discussion. It prompted the collaboration of all of the members.

It tells me how to reach out and collaborate with others.

Group discussion as we can get to know what goes on in the library systems around us.

Group activities. I learnt a lot from my group members and know more from other countries’ library.

Group discussions and experience sharing. Learning about practices in other libraries was very informative.

(i) Collection development – methods for e-collection; (ii) Literacy workshop – ideas of improvement; (iii) Space planning – good to know what other libraries has overcome.

I think the discussion of the Group is the specific activity work, because we are communicated further.

We did not get to lack of resources problem that I had addressed as challenges.

Communications are in English, and no explain. It may be work better if there’s some translation.

I can’t understand the English presentation well, because of my poor English. But I will try my best to improve it.

Sometimes, teachers speaks too fast. Maybe we can hold some meeting or parties at night to enhance the communication between teachers and students, between participants in difference area.

Nothing. All sessions are very useful to me.

My members in my group encouraged me to report our discussion.

The presentation of Shanghai Library is impressive and give me some insights on innovative space design.

What worked well for me are the Group Discussion and Case Study. Because they make me know more about collaboration with others. That’s very important.

Perhaps allow a participant to present in Chinese, and nominate another group member to be the translator.

Human resources management is still a problem to me. I wish I’ll get more information from the Institute.

Discussions as language seems to pose a huge challenge to some participants who are unwilling to participate even in the sharing/discussion, let alone presenting the group’s comments.

I hope the meeting will increase Chinese language in the next time because more and more people will come from China.

To know about the challenges of the library field and think about how to cope with them.

Our team work on collaboration proposal. I learned the advantages and disadvantages, as well as challenges when collaborating with new services. Also learned the experience from Washington University.

The workshop was highly useful personally for me in teaching.

I like this learning and training styles. This experience is very exciting, maybe we will hold seminar like this in our library.

Learn more through group discussion. It’s a good opportunity for me to meet so many librarian from different background. They have inspired me a lot in the field of librarianship.

The Leadership Institute is very useful to me, because in the Institute I try my best to think in English to finish the task.

Useful, benefit a lot for me, global view and ideas exchanges and sharing, interesting and good topics.

The Institute is very inspiring and I can bring home some meaningful ideas for sharing with my colleagues.

Through different activities, I learn that the importance of collaboration and skills of conducting a plan.

I would like to use this experience to run similar training workshops for colleagues locally.

I have been very inspired by the enthusiasm and professionalism of fellow librarians in the region. I am particularly impressed with the innovative services and close co-operation of the Shanghai University Libraries.

This conference is useful and I received good information for improve my work.

It is a very thought-provoking workshop where it makes you think up best methods to attain to current challenges. Also a way to benchmark with other universities.

To stay relevant, libraries need to focus on services and change the ways they do things. Re-purpose space to meet users’ needs and collaborate with partners.

I think that all activities were very useful to me, so I have a great challenges about English.

I got more experiences form different libraries of Asia.

It is very useful for me to progress my professional. It is very helpful for me to be familiar to the job of library.

We would make up proposals more scientifically. We’ll reform and improve our library rapidly.

It’s wonderful experience for me. It’s the most useful institute that I’ve ever been since I started my work as a librarian.

The presentations from all the facilitators including Fudan Director, were an open eyes to me. These were something encouraging for me to carry out new ideas in my institution.

As a professional, I would think the Institute provide a chance for me to learn about the culture as well as the working experience from other universities.

Improve the knowledge about libraries, obtain inspiration of managing various things in the library.

Group discussion is new learning style for me. I think this form is well, but I need adopt it more.

Lack of Q & A sessions after the theme presentation, which is important for direct communication between the audience and speakers.

Welcoming banquet did not work well. It is effective to be a site for making new friends, but it did not work well.

Learning Commons. It is a very common setup although space design is always a concern. May be it can be presented in another way.

Patron Driven Collection. We are currently having difficulty to involve lecturer in this activity. Lecturers still prefer print book rather than electronic book.

Event was informative and well-scheduled for all the talks.

Better than I had expected.

Maybe the reporter should be turned in every group every time. That would be best for Chinese librarian practicing English.

The event was excellent, we are all happy with the discussion, presentation and all the accommodation, thanks.

Now I have more clear ideas on how to do closer collaborations with different academic departments or units. Thank you for HKU’s arrangement.

We are interested to organize such workshops at two levels – Basic and Advanced. Advanced will be focus on Research in LIS and related areas. It will focus on selection of topics for record to write research report.

Thank you for your good works.

Nothing but thanks.

Thank you for the institute. Fudan and HKUL organized it very well. The facilitator did good jobs and gave me insights.

The staff is good and the conference is usefulness.

Arrangement of rooms in hotel is good as it foster better ties with our Asia Pacific neighbours. More current challenges like Budget Allocation could be discussed.

1. Library is changing as well as transforming rapiding. This is valuable chance of updating and sharing the new trends with people from all over China and neighboured countries. 2. Glad to meet more different people from different areas.

Another job well done!

May the facilitators can give more feedback on the group activities.

Precious chance. I wish I will have another chance to come again. May the Institute better in the future. Thank you very much.

No, everything was great and fantastic.
